Ash Wednesday

Todays theme is reflections. This is where I try chatting about anything and everything! Oh my! That might be dangerous!First, I would like to apologize for not posting weekly. Opening our other shop has kept us very busy. I will try to make an effort to at least post once a week.

I can not believe it is, the Ash Wednesday beginning of Lent for  Christians. During lent we fast, give up something or work on bettering oneself in their faith for 40 days. I am going to work on a few personal issues myself. One item I would like to be better with is not to be negative, let go of the negativity that surrounds us.

At SOSNM, we need to start reorganizing and decorating for Spring and Easter. Easter Sunday is March 27.

Spring to me is a rebirth, a new beginning. We look forward sharing so many ideas to kick start your Spring Season. Dee and I hope when you celebrate Easter, each of you will feel refreshed to begin your Spring with new possibilities.Stop in our shops. I also want to share a few videos of some decorating tips you can try at home.

Happy Valentines to all of you! Love to all of you!

Chars Idea/Recipe

Stonewall Kitchen Cranberry Horseradish sauce. This is delicious on turkey, chicken, or beef. I was serving a prime rib. I usually serve it will a horseradish/mayo sauce I mix. I was out of horseradish. I used the cranberry horseradish sauce with some mayo. Wisk it, it turns into a pretty pink sauce. Delish!

What will be in store for all us in 2016? Can’t wait! Dee and I will do our very best to provide lots of great treasures for your picking! We hope along with  great shopping experiences, all of us will enjoy laughter and fun while doing it.

Christmas and winter decorating can be two different styles. Christmas decorations can be  Nativity’s Santa’s,

Christmas Trees, ornaments, bells, garlands, stockings, etc. Winter decorations can be snowy wreaths, pines, branches, pinecones, snowmen, frosted or shiny beaded garlands.

SOSNM 1 AND 2 have beautiful Christmas greenery to decorate your homes. I love the snowy evergreens and heavy snowy branches. Don’t put away your snowy branches and snowy pines after Christmas.

Snowman and pinecones are essential to your winter décor. I know some customers put out their snowmen after Christmas.

SOSMN 1 and 2 have lots to help you decorate into January and February. Beaded garlands can be used on mantles and tables.

Lanterns are another piece you can use throughout your seasons. Here are a few ideas on using your lanterns: candles, battery candles, fake snow with a santa or a snowman, figurine, doll, shells, sea glass, starfish, etc.

Tarnished silver platter ,bowls, etc. are being used in decorating for all seasons. A candle on a round plate looks beautiful. Sprinkle snow and glitter on the plate.

Old sleds, skates, and skis are fun for winter decor.

Come into our shops, and be inspired! We will have you sparkling and glistening!

Todays recipe is easy!

Buy Brie cheese, slice off the top, microwave till soft and gooey, use Stonewall Kitchen seedless raspberry jam, Cover your brie with the raspberry jam and warm again.

Serve with Stonewall simple crackers

Old vs. New

This weeks blogs theme is old vs. new.

Each has its own value, that’s why we decided to include old and new into our shop.

Vintage items are special because they have a true history.  And when we purchase a vintage item, we share the history of it with others.

It’s a sort of recycling. This gives me a great feeling that we are not just disposing of old things but we are appreciating the value of  them.

Then we have the new treasures!

Some individuals love new items.

The item is all shiny, not used, and all one needs to do is unwrap it.

What a nice fall look!

What a nice fall look!

New is great too! Both new and vintage treasures are loved for their own purpose.

And you know your new treasures will become vintage treasures one day.

At our shop, our goal is to have the old mixed with the new, not separated.

We try to show how we can decorate, entertain, and surround ourselves with what we love whether it’s new or vintage or both!

I love mixing vintage with new.

Try mixing a little vintage in your life! Share the history of the piece with friends and love ones.

Pumpkin Time

I love Fall, the cool crisp air and pumpkins everywhere. The changing colors of the leaves scattered all over the ground.

We hope you come in and visit with us.

Our fire is looking cozy for Fall!
Our fire is looking cozy for Fall! We want to invite all of our customers to come out to visit SOSNM during this beautiful time of the year.

Our shop looks like a pretty fall day. We have changed our displays and added beautiful merchandise.

Great Sales , don’t miss them.

Pictures below are:

The outfit is featured in a store in Ocean View, DE, Interiors by Kim:Kim’s Korner. Stop by lots of accessories, collectables, and furnishings for all homes. Turnkey decorating is available.

The other photo shows Black Crow Candles. Super smelling and long burning candles. Stay tune for a very special addition to this line of candles.

Our last photo is my weathered pumpkin. Quick and easy DIY.

Take a plastic pumpkin, paint it whatever color you desire.

Let it dry, then take a light sandpaper and weather your pumpkin.

I liked sanding around the face and grooves of the pumpkin. Final step, antique it with a stain or diluted brown paint. Wipe off the access. Let it dry. This is a cute and easy project. Send pictures. So we can post.

Come in and check out the arrival of new pumpkin items from Stonewall Kitchen.

Fall isn’t the only one changing its color.

We definitely changed our colors in the shop last week!

Dee and I worked changing and arranging furniture, antiques, soaps, fall foliage, Sheila, gifts, food, and much more till we ourselves couldn’t move!

It was worth it! Stop in to see all our new displays, along with many new treasures.

We now have an extensive line of antique and new jewelry. It’s fabulous!

Big news, Sheila moved!

Finally that woman got off the orange flowered couch!

There is a tiny problem, we can’t find her!

There is a flapper gal who isn’t saying a word!

Stay tuned, to unfold the mystery?

Could Sheila have a sister?

Change is Good???

Girls are hanging around waiting to see the sales!

Girls are hanging around waiting to see the sales! They heard changes are arriving at SOSNM!

Most people would say Change is good. I agree with this statement but I would like to add a small thought with this statement. It is sometimes difficult to accept change. I have a little equation that helps me cope.

Creamware with fall, autuminal colors

Creamware with fall, autuminal colors

Change + Hard Work+ Faith=Acceptance

Yes, change usually means you will need to work hard at your situation to accept the new situation.

Don’t give up! Change is part of life. Sometimes we aren’t happy about the direction of our lives when change hits our road we are traveling down.

We feel unsure of what lies ahead on our road.

My advice is we need to have faith that it will work out. Stay strong.

Try being positive, work hard toward accepting your change.

Speaking of change, Something Old&Something New Marketplace will be experiencing change over the net three days.

I’m arriving tomorrow with my sleeves rolled up and getting ready to change the displays. Dee and I have a lot of hard work ahead to make our shop look different. It needs a little freshing up. We hope you come in and find a treasure from our shop that you go home with. Let us know what you are looking for . Thanks for shopping with us.

I’m bringing in some antiques, vintage items, and lots of jewelry! Vintage , new costume and new gemstone jewelry in gold and sterling. Come in! See the sparkles!

Check us out on Facebook! Dee’s announcing some great flash sales  that will be happening on Friday and Saturday! Don’t forget we will be opened till 6:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday, we will be open 10:00a.m.-3:00p.m.

My idea for the recipe today is:

Use Tollhouse cookie recipe or a sugar cookie recipe

Add the Tollhouse pumpkin spice chips to the recipe.(new, I found them at Giant Foods)

You might want to combine chocolate chips and pumpkin spice chips

Add your favorite nuts

Add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg

Until next time, no matter when change hits your road, have faith, determination, and work hard to accept it. May you always have the courage to do this. Abundant blessings to all.
